Hi guys,
I know most of you on here are also Series 2 Club members, or at least S2C forum users; just to let you know the S2C site was attacked last night and is off the air while it gets put back together.
I've been told that it might take a day or two, so please be patient.
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: S2C site down :(
Hi Robin,
I manged to read a few posts on the S2 forum on Sunday upon my return from Coast to Coast and Ripon race course.
Then it stated there was a problem and you could not get on the site, but i could view the Yorkshire area bit of the forum.
I have posted on the Yorkshire area part of the forum since while the site was down, so I do not understand why that can take place??
Does anyone know where the attack has come from??
Best wishes Les

Re: S2C site down :(
Hi Les,
The East Yorkshire Microsite (HERE) is completely independant - it was set up by Dean a couple of years ago as a 'local' site and uses a different server etc.
There's no link between the two, other than by association (S2C).
Apparently it was a DoS (Denial of Service) attack which is where someone sets up a system to flood a site with requests to view etc. and so blocks out everyone else. Each server only has a limited number of connections, so once continuous requests come in like that the owners of the server (in this case 1&1) shut the site and its links down as it could affect other websites.
It's up to 1&1 to find out where the attack came from - I'm not sure how successful they would be as it probably came from a foreign server with no regulation
and actually, it is up to the host provider (1&1 in this case) to protect us against such attacks - there's not a lot a webmaster can do to prevent DoS attacks!
It looks like 1&1 released the server again on Monday night as that's when the S2C tech guys put the temporary message up - before that the page was 'unavailable'.
I think they are now working on a way to protect the site (not that there's a lot you can do about DoS attacks
) before putting it up again.
Hopefully it will be up very soon - I miss it
Cheers,
Robin.
EDIT - Latest news is that it wasn't a DoS attack, but 'something' trying to use the S2C server as a mail-bot to send out spam emails!
