Dormobile Roof Refurbish...........

Can somebody confirm if I've got the "canopy hoops" installed the right way round please ? ? Also what order they are clipped to the canopy ?? I didn't take any notice when I removed them

I've given up on the new canopy as I found it physically impossible to install as it seemed to be 3" short in one corner I'm not impressed with it so I've refitted the old one.

You have it the right way round - the outer hoop is the lowest.

Thanks Ian I only had two clipped in wrong

Had my first attempt at putting in the glass tonight needless to say I failed. So any tips and advice please ??

Hi Jerry,

Putting the glass in yourself? Brave man! I've done it, but it wasn't easy at all.
You will need string, soapy water and the special tool to lay in the locking strip. There's a good description on how to do it here:

Make sure you have the right seal for the glass if you are using new seals. My glass was 1/8" thick (my truck is a '62).
I had bought new seals from Dormobile Ltd. which turned out to be for 3/16" glass. So I ended up getting new glass. On the plus side, you won't be standing on a wobbly ladder doing it.

Thanks for the link Ian I'll have another attempt later I appear to have the correct seal for the glass so in theory it should fit no problem, I enquired about having new glass cut but it was going to be $220 and 2mm thicker so I declined their offer. I also note that the front piece of glass has a curve in it whereas the rear piece is flat.

$220 seems expensive for new glass - the 2 pieces I bought cost me $125. The Oz $ is about equal to the US $. But 2mm thicker is too much I think. The curse of the metric world down under. I'm curious about your piece of glass that is curved as I thought both were flat. Mine certainly were.

Well the glass went in easier than expected with the help of soapy water and string, but the rubbers shrank when I inserted the locking strip leaving a 10mm gap between the joints I've glued a piece in but if I have problems with it I'll take it to the professionals and let them do it.

So now the roof is back on and I have a bit of jiggery pokery to get it to work as intended, it seems to rub on the metal roof now as it closes and is difficult to lock in the open position Also when I did a water test the water in the gutter will not go past the first roof hinge, it overflows and leaks through the door



Hope the engine conversion is easier

My 64/65 Dormobile has never had its roof off but the water has always blocked at the first hinge so maybe its normal?
At least down under you have less rain than I was used to in Yorkshire. Now i live in Italy there seems to be just as much rain as in the UK. Yesterday a cloudburst and our back road became a river.

Going back to glass size, I spoke with Jim from Dormobile and queried the glass vs seal size and was told that they use the seal for both glass sizes and it is ok!

Has anyone used the seal with the thinner glass?
