Could do, except you're not allowed to carry that much "spare" petrol. Would be a shame to switch to a TDi too given how original it is.

Rob,

As per email, you know you want to and it is just what you need :nana1:

I know - part of it is the (probable) need to switch a fairly unmolested vehicle to a diesel & also (possibly) rip out most of the interior to get a fridge, cooker & storage plus decent (safer) front seats.

Why go diesel? I am keeping mine petrol, it is what it is (and original).... As for the interior, work with what you have, it was well thought out when it was built and if the seats are like the dormatic ones, they are quite sofa like!! :gold:

It's the 12-15 mpg that's quite off putting, then again a diesel conversion won't be cheap either. Not so much comfort for the seats, it's wanting some back & neck protection in the event of a mishap.

Cracks are appearing.

Robin - are there any photo's at all?
Dan - how close did you say you'd be in a couple of weeks?

Hi Rob,

I get twenty miles to the gallon with the 2.6 6 pot and I am running on 750s with FWH and overdrive.

It may improve when she is run in as she only has 21,200 original miles (not 27,000miles Robin :neener: ).

This could be improved with uprated diffs, range rover /110 diffs.

But of course the choice is yours to stay petrol or go diesel, its down to cost/time individual preference.

Best wishes Les :tiphat:

Thanks Les. That's the last of the practicalities sorted - at the 12-15 mpg I'd been seeing around (Google & local garage used to have one) it wasn't practical. Higher pressure ratio may help further (there's another head in there) as would the diffs/Ashcroft transfer box.

Just need some pics & a once over now! Karen said (provisionally) yes too! :woohoo:

I'll give the guy a ring today for an exact location.
Hopefully then Dan can call in and take some pictures

Les, I think I pulled the 27k miles from the writeup of the C2C run - don't know where they got that from though

Cheers,
Robin.
