Another dumb question if I may. How does the rack fit to the gutter rails (by clamps)?

Do I need to bring a drill to affix the front to the front bumper?

Already applying easing oil to the windscreen hinge bolts in preparation!

Looking at the images again it is bolted - so I will need to drill the roof gutter to affix - correct?
Still puzzled regarding the front bumper...

there is a possibility that I will be making a trip to Sheila in the next few weeks, with a trailer. If it helps, I can bring the roofrack back here?

From mine to Sheila is at least 6 hours .

It does look a heavy thing that you and Sheila would struggle with between you

May I say a very big thank you to Sheila (Dieselhen) who offered huge hospitality on my trip up to collect the rack. I have not had such a wide ranging and enjoyable fireside chat like that for over 20 years.

The rack now is again in use...



May I also say a very big thank you to a gentlemen called Tam who assisted in fitting it so I could travel back down.

A wonderful trip. Terrific hospitality & a bit of UK motoring heritage back doing what it was designed to do. Modest rack adjustments will require it to come off again, be warmed up & refitted as the legs are 5 mm too wide for the guttering. That is a job for the future.

That is a serious roof rack! And a nice pair of sand ladders on the sides too?

Yes, I'm tempted once mine is fully on the road and kitted out. Need to check dimensions but a standard 88" rack might be the right size? Having had a look at Robin's Carawagon (and using him to mark the rack height) it shouldn't block the forward visibility too much either.

"Marque's Mobile Scaffolding"......... That certainly looks to be a heavy piece of equipment to haul around Marque, will you leave it on permanently or just fit it when you go travelling ?? I thought mine was quite heavy but that must weigh twice as much especially with the sand ladders fitted also.

Talking of scaffolding, I've been using mine as a mobile platform while I paint the house. A bit scary having the ladder fully extended sitting on the roof rack to reach the gables

It took 3 to lift it on due to difficult size rather than weight. All up I would say it is 35KG. It will stay on permanently once the width issue is resolved. I intend to use it as a sun deck for the daughter & I on trips. It was an opportunistic purchase, hence the bulkhead is the next structural priority. Too good an opportunity to let go.

I will strip off the sand ladders & jerry can rack locking bar (not pictured) & put them out of harms way. The I will fasten seat belts & await SWMBO's wrath on her return after a month away. I do have alot of cleaning up to do. Off to do some now actually. Who would of thought Mr Muscle would be so useful ;-)

Land rovers are cheaper than marital guidance & a lot healthier too.
