Good news Rob and you are welcome.

If anybody has problems with camper insurance, do drop me a line as it took a couple of phone calls to sort Robs but it was sortable.

KEY INFORMATION...

Regardless of whether you are missing a seat, wardbrobe etc.. If you own a Carawagon or Dormobile, Safari, Park Ranger etc. you are insuring a factory approved Land Rover. What you replace or repair is your business and does or should not affect the insurance. The issue of other mods are just that other mods to a factory camper (tdi etc). Rather perversely, if you surrender too much information, like I am missing the cooker etc. it sets alarm bells ringing as the self conversion of campers now seems to be a dirty word with underwriters on standard policies.

Just about all camper quotes are done on an individual basis now, I am working with both Heritage and FJ and their underwriters to have these conversions recognised as standard models. This is now the case with Heritage, however, this only applies to standard vehicles I am afraid, non-standard will still be at the discretion of the underwriter. I am assured however, that you will get cover, it just might not be the £60 that everyone keeps banding about elsewhere (by the way, I pay similar to Rob with my two 88"s on the policy as well).

Self conversions are insured as 'self conversions' and you may well have to have any gas installation etc.. certified by a professional (this is their primary concern). Heritage are happy to insure self converted Land Rovers, but it will be on a special modified policy.

We are getting there, I primarily do this via the S2C, but am happy to assist anybody on LRCC as well if you have any issues. I have direct contact with the decision makers and contrary to some opinions they do want you business and will probably try and help out where possible.

Well, I think we have to give a big vote of thanks to Dan for his work with the insurance companies :gold:

Also take heed - a Carawagon or Dormobile are exactly that, whatever modifications or missing parts there are, so as Dan says, don't confuse the issue, just tell them that's what it is, a factory fitted conversion!

Cheers,
Robin.
