Litton/Skipton 12-14th Oct

Hi guys,

Just back from a weekend away up in the Yorkshire Dales.

Steve, Patrick & I decided to go up early, before the Skipton 4x4 autojumble today.

Very mixed weather - I arrived early on Friday afternoon to glorious sunshine, and sat in a chair dozing in the hot sun waiting for the others to arrive:

However, although it was as hot as a summer day when the sun was out, every time the sun went behind a cloud it dropped so we were forever putting on and taking off layers. Steve's very accurate thermometer was showing swings from 25C in the sun to 8C in the shade during the daytime.

Night time temps were well down to freezing and below!

Sat night at around midnight, we decided it was bedtime when Patrick put a bottle on his table (outside) and it slid to the other end on the ice :aaagh:
So we let the firepit die down and we all fired up our Diesel night heaters......... except that Steve's decided there weren't enough volts in his aux battery, so failed to start.
He decided to put his stove on for a few minutes instead, so we all retired. However, we found out the next morning that his gas had decided it was too cold to evaporate so his stove went out after a very short time - so he spent a night at around -4C snuggled inside his sleeping bag, fully clothed, despite being offered a bunk in Patrick's Carawagon - they must be 'ard in North Lincs

This was the scene this morning:

Then the sun rose to melt the ice:

The autojumble at Skipton on Sunday was a bit of an anticlimax after that, but it was the biggest turnout of traders and stalls we'd seen for a couple of years.
We got permission to drive through to the autojumble area to park, and were immediately mobbed by folk wanting to know about our Carawagons.
I think turning up mob-handed with three 'Wagons causes a bit of a scene sometimes :gold:

Mick (Jabbawocky) invited us back to his place afterwards so we could check out Steve's cylinder pressures, just for fun :stars: so we rounded the day off there and went our separate ways.

Oh, and we had the obligatory Kefta on Saturday night :eatin:

Yet another good weekend

Cheers,
Robin.

Thanks Phillip - I'm sure Patrick & Steve got some better ones, but I've entered this one for starters

Perhaps we should have a 'Picture of the Month' section as well?

Cheers,
Robin.

Now I know why I emigrated  just got back from a fishing / camping trip myself. We are now into spring here so we had 30+ days but chilly enough at night to sit round the camp fire. :woohoo:

Good pics Robin, when do you leave for oz ??

Hi Jerry,

Yes, I'm envious of your climate, though I remember Adelaide getting down to single figures when we lived there!

In fact, haven't I just read something on the news about the East coast getting snow a couple of weeks ago :aaagh:

We'll be getting to Perth on 21st Nov after a week in Malaysia, and hopefully Melbourne and Hobart will have warmed up a little by the time we get over that side

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Robin

Further to your suggestion to have a picture of the month, can I
suggest a gallery section. As alot of carawagon's were built to
the customer's requests,it would be interesting to see all the
differences. Also to have some record of all the campers on the
forum.

Regards

Phillip

Hi

Yes I too would like to see the differences inside the carawagons as this will give me ideas for the inside of my new project.

I'll have a think about what we could do with an image gallery of some kind.

Managed or free for all?
