my 1st breakdown

i suppose it had to happen, driving 40+ year old landrovers.

after 18 months of driving the station wagon, and never having
a problem it came as a bit of a shock when i pulled off the a1
into my village in the carawagon and the engine died, and i
rolled to a stop.turned the engine over and eventually started,
but felt like it was running on 3 so limped the half mile home.

on opening the bonnet the problem was obvious, petrol was
pouring from the carb all over the exhaust!!!.a friend came over
with a spare carb swapped them over and the engine is now
running sweeter than ever.

all's well that ends well

hoping to see you all in yorkshire next week-end
(still not 100% gordon)

regards

phillip

Oh dear - good job there wasn't a spark :aaagh:

I wonder if you've sucked up a bit of dirt which is stopping your float valve from seating? That's the usual cause for petrol pouring from a carb.

Easy fix, though it wouldn't have happened in the Station Wagon, would it :neener:

You do carry an extinguisher, don't you?
My insurance insists on an extinguisher in the Carawagons due to the cooker.

Hopefully see you next weekend

Cheers,
Robin.
