Dormobile - Cowling, North Yorkshire

So, what are the chances ... ? Today, (Friday) I pootled down from Edinburgh to have a look at a 109 station wagon belonging to a very pleasant chap who lives near Cowling, North Yorks.

We went for a test drive over the hills - not bad, this 109 - and in a car park high up in the middle of nowhere I see ... a Land Rover Dormobile.

If you're on this forum, that was me, waving. Kathy

Yep, that'll be Mick.

Glusburn (where he lives) is just 2 miles east of Cowling :tiphat:

If we'd known you were coming down, I'm sure Mick would have made you welcome, or you could even have joined some of us at our (very cold) Easter camp at Goathland (Heartbeat country) in North Yorkshire - where we had 5 Carawagons :gold: but no Dormobiles

Cheers,
Robin.

Thank you - that would have been fun. It was just a flying visit (four hours each way to Edinburgh) but next time I'll let you know and we may be able to link up.

It was rather extraordinary to come across a Series Dormbile at the precise moment I was telling my friend with the station wagon about mine and how I don't really want to part with it. "There's a chap around here who has one ... oh look - there it is!"

So, Mick, sorry not to see you in person - but you have a lovely Dormobile.

Hi K

Yes, that was us. We were the two adults, one child and two dogs, playing on the 5' snow drift and watching you look at the Dormobile. Louise was very concerned that you might be trying to steal it. :aaagh: Her vision is not great at that distance and she couldn't tell which vehicle was which. When you got back into the other 109", she thought it was the Dormobiles and had a momentary panic. Luckily, my sight is still very good at distance and we all had a chuckle. Wondered who is was, but as we had just arrived and the view from the Pinnacle is breathtaking, we decided to continue our walk.

As said above, you would have been very welcome to call in at ours and recharged your batteries. Could have show you the fleet of Landies. You could have had a chat with Louise about Dormobiles and got a woman's perspective on them. We could have bored you to tears with photos and stories of our trips in the Dormobile. We are also great lovers of getting lost in France and getting the Dormobile allowed us to move much simpler than with either tent or caravan.

Was the 109" any good?

Regards Mick

Thanks, I'd love to meet you both.

It is likely that I will buy the 109 when mine is sold. It has a galvanised chassis and is generally very sound but in need of some bulkhead work and cosmetic attention to bring it up to scratch - all within budget, though.

That would be good - at least you have something workable to set your sights on

Do let us know when/if you are coming down to collect it, or for any other reason - check out our show calendar HERE to see if you can coincide with visiting a show :gold:

Cheers,
Robin.
