Gas fittings

Does anybody know a good source for 8mm gas fittings? I need a T piece to T into the existing hose, a copper to rubber hose connector, a gas tap, and 2-200 mm of 8mm copper pipe with an 8mm connector to the Propex heater and a short length of 8mm rubber hose? Intend to fit it sometime soon, have already switched from Butane to Propane. What have folks used with compression fittings, liquid PFT sealant or bespoke gas seal on the threads?

Hi Dan

Your best bet is look for a local chap who does caravan servicing. Most have qualifications and all the bits you will need.

Our gas bottle dealer does have lots of connectors and pipe, but I just ran rubber gas pipe from regulator to the tap on the cooker, so not needed any solid bits.

Mine originally had a gas fridge (defunct and replaced with a Waeco compressor fridge) as well as the stove and the pipework was copper with two shut-off taps and a T piece.

When testing, I found both shut-off taps leaking (probably O rings which I could have replaced) but as I didn't need the fridge pipework any more, I did the same as Mick - one rubber pipe from bottle regulator to stove.

Sorry, that doesn't help you though if you are teeing off for a Propex unit, does it :embarassed:

By the way, did you buy a new Propex or did you manage to get a second hand one?

Cheers,
Robin.

Second Hand which is why In need some bits and pieces.... I have a hose that runs from the regulator all the way to the gas tap at the cooker, I want to 'T' into this hose to take a short rubber pipe to the Propex, the last 200mm of pipe do need to be copper so I need a connector (preferably a tap). The propex is going under the middle seat in half of what was the blanket box so not far from the gas bottle setup.

G'day Dan, I have stripped a few caravans and have kept the pipe work which I just never thought to have sent up to you with the other trinkets so sorry for that it just never crossed my mind and to make things worse I have just let a small caravan go that was parked behind one of my 109's basically because I needed it shifted due to my friends health issues and me not having enough room at my bungalow.

I know if can be a big word and hine sight would be a good thing but if only I was not just worried about getting things up your way you could have had everything for nothing sorry :banghead:.

Catch you later. Brad :embarassed: .

G'day Dan, do you know those things never entered my head :embarassed: when she fired up and I felt how much heat it through out I was so excited to get it the fitting an exhaust never entered my head and as there is no evidence of one ever been fitted it would only have become apparent when the time came for me to fit it in one of my campers I would have realized then as per my eberspachers :aaagh: .

How to gas yourself in one easy lesson or purchase is to buy something off me :banghead: and you can guess what people think I have for brains :stars:.

I hope all goes well with the fitting and the trial run. Catch you later. Brad :tiphat: .

All sorted and Propex fitted!! Chose to mount it under the cooker, nice and easy for tapping into the gas supply. The exhaust comes out on the same line as the normal exhaust so all nice and neat. I have to say it makes the LR toasty!! All wired through thermostat and I have also installed a carbon monoxide detector...

G'day Dan, I take it you are happy with the heater then  and the amount of heat it throws out so it should be good for your lass and yourself although how silly it may sound but a small container of water stood on the side stops the air drying out and giving you a dry throat  .

Catch you later. Brad :tiphat: .
